What are the Many Functions of the DVR?

The DirecTV DVR or HD-DVR is truly an amazing work of technology for the modern TV enthusiast. Remember how much more difficult life used to be without being able to pause live TV, rewind live TV, instant replay, many recording options and most especially the commercial skip feature!

Yes, DirecTV has come a long ways but so have their customers. So many features have been developed over the years based on what we have asked DirecTV to do. The hard drives are bigger, HD support has been greatly enhanced, new recording options make early models look prehistoric and with dual tuners you can do many combinations of things such as watch 2 programs at the same time with Picture in Picture!

PIP

With Picture in Picture (PIP) you can display two channels at the same time on one TV. Not only that, you can change the pop up screen to 2 different sizes and 6 different positions. Not including split screen mode, whereas both programs are split right in two, while audio can toggle back and forth at your discretion.

Commercial Skip

In the center of you DirecTV remote control and slightly right there is commercial skip button that is understandably a very popular feature of DirecTV. Pause Live TV

When you pause live TV, the DVR will record your TV service moment to moment until you resume by pushing play. Whatever duration you have paused TV, you will have as a recorded delay. So you can fast forward as long as you have paused, or recorded.

This is both very easy and convenient.

Recording

You can record a program many different ways, simplest of all is press the record button near the center of the remote. To retrieve a DVR recording, press the list button near the top right of the select key.

With DirecTV dual tuners you can record one program while watching another, or record two programs at the same time. If your recording two programs then you will only be able to watch one or the other channel, or you can watch what's a program stored on your DVR.

My favorite feature is the search and find program. Press the pound button at the bottom right of your remote and using the appearing application you are now able to select a specific program you want to record, without actually having to find it on the guide. Now you have the option to automatically record your favorite want whenever you want without any further effort.

Interactive TV

DirectTV Sports Mix

DirecTV Sports Mix displays 6 Sports channels at the same time. You toggle audio between the six by indicating with your remote control navigation which screen of the 6 has your attention. To see any of the Sports Mix in full screen just highlight and press the select key to go to that channel.

News Mix

The same deal as above only with 6 news stations, including the weather channel, CNN, Fox News and more.
